1 Killed, 2 Injured In Hunter’s Creek Area

Swerve

Car accidents can lead to significant damages, depending on the speed of the vehicles and other factors involved. A recent crash in the Hunter’s Creek area of Kissimmee is an example of this, killing a teen.

A 16-year-old was killed and two others were injured in the crash, which happened on the evening of March 8 on State Road 417. The fatal accident happened in the northbound lanes at Mile Marker 9, between the John Young Boulevard and Orange Blossom Trail exits.

A 25-year-old man from Winter Garden was driving a Mercedes-Benz SUV. He was traveling in the inside lane behind a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, which was driven by the 30-year-old Kissimmee man. The Mercedes suddenly swerved into the center lane for unknown reasons, rear-ending the Mitsubishi.

The impact of the crash made the Mercedes rotate counter clockwise, toward the shoulder. It hit the guardrail and then hit a tree before overturning in an embankment. The SUV also went off the side of the road.

The occupants of the Mercedes were taken to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in critical condition. One passenger, a 16-year-old, later died. The driver remains in critical condition. The Kissimmee man driving the Mitsubishi was taken to HCA Florida Hunter’s Creek with minor injuries.

All those involved were wearing seat belts. The crash is still under investigation.

Dangers of Swerving

Swerving is an incredibly dangerous behavior. Swerving is defined as an abrupt and often jarring change from one lane to another. Swerving from one lane to another while driving can cause the following dangers:

  • Loss of control. Abrupt swerving can lead to loss of control over the vehicle, especially at high speeds or on slippery roads. This can result in skidding or even rolling over, causing accidents.
  • Risk of rollover. Swerving sharply, especially in vehicles with a high center of gravity such as SUVs or trucks, can increase the risk of rollover accidents.
  • Swerving abruptly can increase the risk of colliding with other vehicles, pedestrians, or objects on the road. This can lead to serious injuries or fatalities for everyone involved.
  • In some cases, drivers may overcorrect when swerving to avoid an obstacle, which can lead to fishtailing or veering into oncoming traffic lanes.
  • Unpredictable maneuvers. Swerving unexpectedly can confuse other drivers and create chaotic situations on the road, potentially causing chain-reaction accidents.
  • Tire blowouts. Abrupt swerving can put excessive stress on the tires, increasing the risk of a blowout, particularly if the tires are worn or improperly inflated.
