2 Killed When Vehicle Hits Tree, Wall

Solo-vehicle crashes can sometimes be just as deadly as multi-vehicle accidents. A driver can suddenly veer off the road and hit a large object, causing a fatal crash.

Sadly, this was recently the case in Ocoee. A car crashed into a tree and wall, killing both occupants. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of June 15 at Ocoee Apopka Road and Summershade Drive.

A Toyota Camry sedan was traveling north on Ocoee Apopka Road when it crashed at the intersection. It went off the road and hit a tree and a brick wall. The car then caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames. The driver, a 22-year-old from Apopka, and the passenger, a 30-year-old from Orlando, died at the accident scene. Police were at the scene trying to remove them from the vehicle shortly after the crash, but were not successful. The Ocoee Fire Department arrived and was able to extinguish the fire.

The crash woke up a man who lives behind the accident. He was sleeping when he heard the collision, which sounded like a tree hitting the house. The bricks from the smashed wall hit his home and broke the window in his living room. He was surprised that the damage was so minimal, but the car hit a tree first. Had the car not hit the tree, the car would have likely entered his bedroom and killed him.

Ocoee Apopka Road was shut down for several hours as emergency responders cleared the accident. The sedan was totaled and towed away from the scene. The cause of the crash is unknown. The accident is under investigation by the Ocoee Police Traffic Homicide Unit.

Causes of Solo-Vehicle Crashes

Solo-vehicle accidents can be caused by a number of factors. Most are related to driver error. They include the following:
