Interstate 4 In Florida Considered Deadliest Road

TrafficWithTrucks

Florida has a population of close to 22 million. Add to that the millions of tourists that the state sees every year and you get busy roadways. Traffic leads to congestion, which can mean dangerous car accidents.

In fact, Florida is one of the most dangerous states to drive. It ranks #2, at 19.6 fatal crashes per 100 miles. California is at the top of the list, with 20.3 fatal crashes per 100 miles. Texas ranks #3, at 15.4 fatal crashes per 100 miles.

Florida is also home to one of the deadliest roads in the country. A study from Assurance IQ, an insurance policy shopping platform, recently revealed that Interstate 4 is the most dangerous road in Florida as well as in the United States. Interstate 4 is 132 miles long, ranging from Interstate 275 in Tampa to Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach.

The crash data showed an average of 34 crashes per 100 miles on Interstate 4. So what makes this road so dangerous? It’s the location. Interstate 4 is the closest interstate to Disney World, running through the heart of Orlando. Since many tourists visit Disney World while in Florida, you can bet that Interstate 4 gets quite congested.

Interstate 95 was also on the list, coming in seventh place. This road stretches through 14 states, including Florida.

Staying Safe

No matter where you drive, you can do your part to stay safe. Always wear your seat belt. Never drink and drive. If you do consume alcohol, don’t get behind the wheel. Stay somewhere overnight or get a ride home from Uber, Lyft, or a friend or family member.

Staying alert is key. Put down the phone. Never text while driving. Don’t read, eat, or use navigation while behind the wheel. Don’t be distracted by music or passengers. Stay focused on the road and what is in front of you. Stay in your lane at all times.

Exercise good driving skills. Always stop at stop signs and red lights. Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Increase the distance in poor weather and road conditions. Always check your blind spots before reversing or switching lanes.

These tips can help prevent accidents, but still, you cannot control the actions of other drivers. Do what you can to stay safe and be prepared to drive defensively if necessary.
