Man Dies In Crash Caused By Medical Issue

HeartAttackCar

Unfortunately, medical episodes can happen at any time – even while driving. These sudden issues can cause serious crashes. What happens afterward can vary. In Florida, a man who was having a medical episode while driving was ejected from his vehicle and then ran over and killed by his own car.

This fatal accident happened in Kissimmee on the morning of December 11 at Stepping Stone Boulevard and Marigold Avenue. A 47-year-old man was driving a Ford Crown Victoria. He was traveling east on Stepping Stone Boulevard when he suddenly suffered a medical episode.

The car ran off the road and hit a tree. The impact caused the man to be ejected from the car. The car then rotated counterclockwise and hit the man. He died at the accident scene.

The man had two passengers in the vehicle. A 36-year-old Kissimmee woman and a 3-year-old boy were seriously injured and taken to HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital. Nobody inside the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

What to Know About Seat Belt Use

Seat belt use is at a record high, at roughly 90%. That’s great news because in 2004, seat belt usage was about 10% lower. Still, usage rate us not at a perfect 100%, which means that more than 27 million Americans are not buckling up.

Every time you buckle up when driving or riding in a vehicle, you cut your risk of a fatal injury by 50%. Wearing a seat belt is an easy task that takes just a few seconds to do. By buckling up, the odds are in your favor that you will survive a crash.

It’s also important to understand how not wearing a seatbelt affects you in other ways. For example, your vehicle’s other safety features, such as airbags, won’t work as effectively if you’re not wearing a seat belt. In fact, the force of an airbag can seriously injure or even kill you if you’re not wearing a seat belt when it deploys. Seat belts and bags work together for your safety.

Believe it or not, seat belts are the most effective safety technology in a vehicle. A study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that, between 1960 and 2012, seat belts saved more lives than all other vehicle technologies combined. This includes innovations such as air bags and electronic stability control. Seat belts have been available much longer than most of the safety features we have in today’s modern vehicles, but they remain essential for safe driving.
