Man Killed In Kissimmee Accident

CarAcc16

When driving, motorists need to be aware of what is in front of them. Road hazards, such as stopped vehicles, can happen at any time and drivers need to be prepared. When they’re not, they can cause serious or even fatal accidents.

Sadly, this was recently the case in Kissimmee. A man was killed after he rear-ended a vehicle. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of April 30 on John Young Parkway.

A Mazda CX-30 was traveling north on John Young Parkway, near Ball Park Road, when it slowed down for traffic. This is when a Hyundai Veloster traveling behind the Mazda failed to slow down and rear-ended it. The impact caused the Hyundai to swerve into the southbound lanes. The Hyundai went into the path of a Ford F-250, which caused the truck to collide with the right side of the Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 25-year-old Kissimmee man, was taken to Osceola Regional Hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Mazda, a 17-year-old Kissimmee girl, was not injured. The driver of the Ford F-250, a 62-year-old Orlando man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Multiple northbound and southbound lanes of John Young Parkway were blocked for several hours after the crash. The accident is under investigation.

Dealing With Slow Vehicles and Traffic

It’s not uncommon for cars to be moving quickly on a busy road and then suddenly slow down due to traffic or other reasons. When this happens, it helps to be alert and patient. Having to put on the brakes can be frustrating, but if you don’t react quickly, you can cause a serious or fatal accident. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Scan the road ahead. Pay attention to the road ahead and be aware of any signs or signals indicating slowed or stopped traffic, such as brake lights and hazard lights.
  • Maintain a safe following distance. Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you. This distance should allow you enough time to react and stop if the vehicle ahead suddenly slows down or stops.
  • Use your mirrors. Regularly check your rearview and side mirrors to monitor traffic behind you. This can help you anticipate any vehicles that may be slowing down or stopping.
  • Reduce your speed. If you see slowed or stopped vehicles ahead, gradually reduce your speed. Avoid sudden braking, as this can cause a collision with vehicles behind you.
  • Plan your escape route. Always have an escape route in mind in case you need to maneuver around a stopped vehicle. Be prepared to change lanes or pull over.
