Man Killed In Solo-Vehicle Crash Near Orlando

ConstructionZone2

Many people consider driving to be a passive activity, but it’s not. When driving, it’s important to always be alert because one wrong move or one moment of inattention can cause a life-changing or life-ending accident.

Sadly, this was the case for a Kissimmee man. A recent solo-vehicle accident caused a domino effect of events, ultimately ending his life. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of October 26 on Orange Blossom Trail.

The 41-year-old man was traveling north on Orange Blossom Trail, near Taft Vineland Road. He was in a Nissan Pathfinder SUV in the inside northbound lane when he failed to maintain the lane. This caused him to hit a concrete center median. As the man overcorrected to the right, the SUV ran off the roadway. It then hit a curb and light pole before overturning onto its roof.

The man died at the accident scene. He was believed to not be wearing a seat belt. The crash is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dangers of Overcorrecting

Overcorrecting while driving occurs when a driver steers too sharply or quickly in response to a situation. This often happens when the vehicle has veered off course or the driver encounters an unexpected obstacle. Overcorrecting can lead to a loss of control, so here are some tips to prevent it from happening:

  • Stay calm. If your vehicle drifts out of its lane or veers onto the shoulder, try to remain calm and avoid panicking. Quick reactions often lead to overcorrection.
  • Steer gently. Make small, controlled adjustments rather than sudden, forceful ones. If your car starts to drift, gently steer back toward your lane rather than jerking the wheel.
  • Ease off the gas. If you drift off the road, don’t immediately slam on the brakes or yank the wheel. Ease off the accelerator and gradually guide the car back onto the road.
  • Avoid sudden movements. Sudden inputs like hard braking or sharp turns can cause loss of traction, especially on slippery surfaces. Aim to keep your movements smooth.
  • Stay aware of road conditions. Different conditions like wet or icy roads can amplify the effects of overcorrecting. Drive at a speed appropriate for conditions and increase following distance.

It’s also a good idea to ensure your car is in good condition, especially your brakes and tires. Having working brakes and properly inflated tires will help you stay in control to some degree.
