Motorcyclist Killed In Crash With Van
Motorcycles can be fun to ride, but they are dangerous. These vehicles are small and hard to see, especially at night.
A motorcyclist was recently killed in a crash involving a van in the Kissimmee area. The fatal accident occurred on the evening of November 2 on Buena Ventura Boulevard.
A 44-year-old Kissimmee man was riding a motorcycle. He was heading north on Buena Ventura Boulevard when he crashed into the left side of a Ford cargo van that was turning left from Majors Lane. The motorcycle rider was killed in the crash. The occupants of the van were not injured. They remained at the accident scene.
Witnesses told Florida Highway Patrol that the motorcycle rider was driving recklessly. He was speeding and did not have any headlights on.
Reckless Motorcycle Behavior
Many people ride motorcycles recklessly. They may do so on purpose to get a reaction from others. In some cases, though, riders drive recklessly because they don’t know how to control their motorcycle. They may engage in behaviors such as the following:
- Motorcycles are small and fast. Many riders push these vehicles to their limits, causing catastrophic collisions and loss of control.
- Riding in groups. Many bikers like to ride with others, but large groups can cause distractions. They may also drive dangerously around larger vehicles, causing serious crashes.
- Performing tricks. Many riders think they are invincible. They may pop wheelies, race, and do other tricks on the road. They may think these things are cute or funny, but they can cause distractions and accidents.
- Driving under the influence. No matter who you are or what you’re driving, getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol is stupid. Alcohol affects your body in many ways. It affects judgment, balance, reaction time, and more. Even one drink can impair judgment.
- Running red lights and stop signs. Motorcyclists need to follow traffic laws at all times. Running red lights and stop signs is not only against the law but also dangerous. A vehicle could T-bone or cause some other accident, resulting in serious injuries to the rider.
- Failure to signal. Motorcycles are small and hard to see as it is, so riders need to do things to make themselves known to other drivers. This means signaling their intentions. Motorcycle riders should not simply pull out in front of others or switch lanes without notice. It’s always a good idea to use turn signals.
- Not using headlights. When it gets dark, be sure to turn on headlights so other drivers can see you. Otherwise, you could be involved in a deadly accident.
