Woman Killed In Solo-Vehicle Crash In Osceola County

Rollover6

Car accidents don’t have to involve multiple vehicles. In just a split second, a driver can lose control and end up in a ditch.

Sadly, this recently happened in Osceola County, killing a woman. The fatal accident occurred on the evening of September 14 on Canoe Creek Road in St. Cloud.

A 47-year-old woman from Kenansville was driving an SUV southbound on Canoe Creek Road, near Sunset Ranch Road, when she lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The SUV traveled off the roadway to the right. It flipped over and landed in a ditch.

The woman died at the accident scene. Troopers said she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Her daughter has created a GoFundMe to financially support their family. The crash is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

What Causes Drivers to Lose Control?

Drivers can lose control of their vehicles for various reasons. Here are some common causes:

  • Weather conditions. Rain, snow, or ice can reduce traction between the tires and the road, leading to skidding or hydroplaning. High winds, especially on bridges or open roads, can push vehicles off course, causing loss of control.
  • Excessive speed. Going over the speed limit or driving too fast for road conditions increases the risk of losing control, especially on curves or slippery surfaces. Quick actions at high speeds can destabilize a vehicle, causing it to skid or roll over.
  • Mechanical failures. A sudden loss of air in a tire can make it difficult to steer and maintain control. Inability to stop or slow down can lead to dangerous situations where drivers lose control. If the steering system fails, drivers may struggle to maintain their direction.
  • Road conditions. Sudden bumps or dips can cause a vehicle to lose traction or throw off its balance. These surfaces reduce tire grip and can lead to sliding or fishtailing, especially when braking or turning.
  • Improper handling. Taking turns too quickly or sharply can cause the tires to lose grip on the road. Quick, unexpected changes in direction can destabilize a vehicle, especially larger ones or those with a high center of gravity.
  • A driver who is overly tired may close their eyes or fall asleep behind the wheel. This can cause them to veer into an adjacent lane or go off the ride entirely and hit objects such as trees or land into a ditch.
